Color Palette Inspiration: A Painter’s Palette

stella_marie_baer_palette

I happened upon Stella Maria Baer’s painting, photography and prints and was in total awe of her use of colors and light.

A lot of her recent work’s content is of space and the relationship of matter in space. The color palette throughout has a very ethereal quality. Yum!

I’ve created a color palette inspired by her amazing artwork. Feel free to use and enjoy the color code hex numbers!

Ink: #283641, Earth: Hex#c46e3d, Peach: Hex#f49b89, Kraft: Hex#cabeae, Warm Gray: Hex#c7bfbd

To see her other work, check out her website and VSCO page. Eye candy! A few examples of her work below…

How to Apply the “Joy” Rule to Design

The desk of Jack + Mo

At the end of 2015, I read Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up. So many of my clients were referencing it, I felt I needed to be in the “know” as to what the KonMarie Method was.  It was such a good read that I flew threw it and immediately followed up with her Spark Joy (the illustrated version). I’ve been an avid organizer for years so her level of crazy made perfect sense to me!

Here is the book’s premise in essence:

Hold each object you own in your hands individually and make a decision- does this item bring joy to your life? Do you enjoy using this item? Does it make you happy? If not, discard it. Thank the item for it’s role during the time you had it, and wish it well on it’s way to a donation spot like GoodWill.

Keep only what brings joy. Find a place for everything.

What the font? Understanding Commercial Licensing

In The Loop Font Designed by Patrick Seymour

Did you know that a lot of font styles require users to purchase a commercial license before use?

Fonts are intellectual property and subject to restrictions just like software.

Is your mind blown right now?! This is something many folks have never given a moment’s thought. But it makes sense once you consider it. Font designers work incredibly hard to develop well-rounded fonts with a full character palette, weights, glyphs.

With growing markets for couture font styles like Creative Market and My Fonts, free download sites like DaFont, 1001Free Fonts and Behance, the stipulations get a little confusing.
